Toyota MR2 Spyder Sway Bar Kit Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Sway Bar Kit on the front on Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Begin sway bar kit front repairs by removing either a right-hand or left-hand front wheel and then tighten it to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm and 1,050 kgf-cm). The next step consists of removing the sway bar links by disconnecting them from the sway bar kit after nut removal at 44 Nm torque (449 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). A 5 mm hexagon wrench should be used against the stud when the ball joint turns with the nut. Follow this by separating the sway bar kit nut and link and then taking out 3 retainers and 2 cushions which needs a torque of 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). Complete the same steps on the other side. Lastly, remove the sway bar kit by disassembling its two bolts, bracket and bushing using 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) of torque with both bushing cutouts facing the rear part and maintaining an 832 mm distance between the bushings. Install the sway bar kit on the other side as well. First flip the ball joint stud five times while inspecting its link and then use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously for 2 - 4 seconds per turn while taking the 5th turn's measurement that should be 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.). To finish the process simply reverse the steps of removal and afterward verify the front wheel alignment.
