Toyota Avalon Steering Wheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the steering wheel on Toyota Avalon?
A: Before disassembly turn the front wheels toward the front direction and take off both lower No. 2 steering wheel covers. Turn the torx socket wrench to loosen the 2 torx screws until their ridges on the screw contact the screw case. Untuck the wheel pad from the steering wheel while disconnecting the Air Bag connector. Pull only the pad end of the wire harness and store its top surface without taking it apart. First disconnect the connector. Then loosen and take off the steering wheel set nut and mark matching points between the wheel assembly and main shaft before removing the steering wheel. Use Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09950-05021) to detach the steering wheel. Install the steering wheel by matching marks while tightening the set nut at 50 Nm (360 inch-pounds) and reconnecting the connector. You need to use fresh Air Bag parts for installing the wheel pad and also need to put torque on the wheel pad at its specified value. Inspect for damage before linking the Air Bag connector. Place the steering wheel pad in position first and then use a torx socket wrench to fix the 2 screws with 8.8 Nm torque if you confirmed that the torx screw circumference groove locks onto the screw case. Verify the steering wheel center after the setup and reset the Steering Angle Sensor when the car has VSC.
