Scion tC Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and replace the fuel tank on Scion tC?
    A:
The fuel tank replacement process begins with taking out the rear seat cushion framework. The first step after opening the rear floor service hole becomes disconnecting the negative battery cable terminal during a minimum 90-second waiting period to deactivate Air Bag systems and seat belt pretensioners. You need to drain fuel before proceeding to remove the center Exhaust Pipe assembly. Fasten the five bolts securing the No.1 fuel tank protector before its removal. Start by removing three bolts from the canister assembly and then proceed with the lower LH rear suspension brace followed by disconnection of the lower RH rear suspension brace with two bolts. The fuel tank main tube requires first disconnection followed by releasing the lock claws from the tab retainer before pushing down to extract the tube from its fittings while ensuring a scratch-free process. Slip the retainer to disconnect the fuel tank breather tube while you pull its connector away from the assembly making sure both remain clean without sustaining any damage. Unanchor the claw fitting first to pull out the fuel hose protector then loosen the clamp bolt and disconnect the fuel tank to filler pipe hose. A transmission jack should support the fuel tank and users must detach its 4 bolts along with the 2 fuel tank bands before using the jack to extract the fuel tank.
