• Q: How to remove the Vacuum Brake Booster on 2010 Scion xD?

  A: To take out the Brake Booster first let the vacuum release from the brake pedal before removing the Brake Master Cylinder. Empty the brake fluid first then rinse off any leak spill on painted areas. First unscrew the wiper head cap at each front arm. Then disconnect both left and right wiper arms with blades. The left cowl top ventilator louver and hood to cowl top seal come off first followed by the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly. Take out the front wiper motor before removing its link followed by the front air shutter seal on the right side and the outer cowl top panel. Unplug the battery and battery tray. Finally detach the battery carrier unit. Take out the brake master cylinder assembly plus actuator from the vehicle after detaching the clutch reservoir tube for manual transaxle. Take off both the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly and the instrument panel under tray. Use a clevis and wrench to disconnect the brake master cylinder push rod before a union nut wrench separates the brake tube while holding both flexible and brake pumps with wrenches. Unscrew the grommet and brake tube before using pliers to split the brake tubes apart. You should keep the brake tube holder secure with a wrench. Slide the vacuum hose clip to disconnect the hose from the check valve before removing all four nuts to take out the brake booster assembly. Keep brake tubes protected while working. End the process by removing the gasket from the brake booster assembly before loosening and separating the push rod clevis and brake vacuum check valve with its grommet.
