2010 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the exhaust pipe and ensure proper assembly on 2010 Scion tC?
A: Five exhaust pipe supports must be installed onto the body during the installation process. Use a vernier caliper to inspect the compression spring length which needs to measure at least 40.5 mm (1.594 in.) or you should replace the spring. Drive a new gasket smoothly against the exhaust manifold surface using a wooden block along with a plastic-faced hammer and maintain proper gasket orientation by not using any former gaskets. Mount the front exhaust pipe with two compression springs using two bolts that need 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) torque. To assemble the center exhaust pipe assembly start by placing a fresh gasket onto the front exhaust pipe then mount the exhaust pipe center onto the supports while using 2 bolts which should be tightened to 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). During tailpipe assembly installation check the compression spring free length for minimum 38.5mm (1.516in.) before replacing it. A new gasket needs to be installed flat against the center exhaust pipe while checking for proper orientation alongside avoiding the use of any previously removed gaskets. Secure the last stage of the tailpipe by attaching it to the three exhaust pipe mounting points before inserting two compression springs followed by installation of two bolts that require a torque value of 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). Connect the heated oxygen sensor for Bank 1 Sensor 2 to the battery negative terminal while keeping in mind that some systems need system initialization after reconnection. Exhaust gas leak detection must be conducted before installing the front floor panel brace using four bolts which need to be torqued to 29.6 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf) while maintaining correct orientation.
