2009 Toyota Tacoma Vapor Canister Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the Vapor Canister on 2009 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The first step to remove the Evaporative Emission Control Canister is to discharge fuel system pressure. First disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal following the removal of fuel tank main tube and fuel tank return tube connections. The removal of fuel tank assembly needs to be completed at this point. You must proceed with removing the charcoal canister filter No. 2 after first taking off the bolt and ABS wire harness clamp from the charcoal canister and then freeing up the EVAP pipe from the hose clamp and disconnecting the breather hose from the pipe and decoupling the hose clamp before disconnecting the breather hose from the charcoal canister and finally unscrewing the nut and discarding the charcoal canister filter No. 2. The charcoal canister assembly demands two steps: disconnecting the connector while separating the EVAP tube before eliminating the bolt and two nuts to extract the charcoal canister. Divert the fuel tank vent hose from the charcoal canister through retainer pinching before removing it from the connector. It is essential to clear the fuel tank vent hose connector of all dirt and foreign materials before taking precautions against scratches or other foreign objects on the parts while handling the work by hand without tools and keeping the nylon tube from all forced bending and twisting motions and wrapping the separated part inside a vinyl bag. The stuck fuel vent connector and pipe can be released by performing pushing and pulling movements.
