2009 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the radiator on 2009 Toyota Sequoia?
A: The radiator removal process starts with removing the No. 1 engine under cover. The first step requires draining the engine coolant whereupon front bumper cover removal becomes possible by unclipping its attachments. Start by detaching the wire harness clamp and removing 6 clips to take out the radiator side deflector located on the LH side. Cars lacking a trailer towing system need to proceed with the removal of their radiator side deflector RH through similar procedures. The next step includes eliminating the throttle body cover sub-assembly as well as separating the air cleaner hose assembly. Detach the inlet radiator hose and move forward with fan shroud removal. To detach the fluid coupling fan from vehicles with trailer towing systems mechanics must first loosen the four fan retaining nuts followed by removing the fan and generator belt while detaching both the claw and reservoir hose then removing two fan shroud retaining bolts. This enables the complete removal of fan shroud and fan while keeping away from cutting the radiator core. Trailer towing systems are not necessary for this repair as the same steps apply for the fan shroud removal yet the oil cooler assembly step should be skipped. First disconnect the outlet radiator hose while removing the 3 clips and No. 1 radiator to support seal before extracting the radiator assembly through removal of its 4 bolts. To finish the radiator assembly dismantling process both the outlet radiator hose and the radiator drain cock plug should be removed last.
