2009 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the brake master cylinder on 2009 Toyota RAV4?
A: The installation process of the brake master cylinder requires downward-facing tip orientation of the master cylinder and piston to avoid piston loss and cleaning the piston followed by lubricating the booster contact surface with lithium soap base glycol grease. The installation process starts with installing a new master cylinder O-ring followed by attaching the master cylinder to the booster with 2 nuts correctly torqued to 9 ft-lbf (13 Nm, 127 kgf-cm). Use a 10 mm union nut wrench to join the master cylinder with its brake lines. Tighten with 15 Nm torque when no wrench is used but reduce this to 14 Nm using the wrench. Maintain the wrench in parallel alignment with the union nut wrench for proper installation. The brake fluid level warning switch connector must be fitted to the master cylinder at location A. First add brake fluid into the reservoir before removing air out from the brake master cylinder and brake line and ABS and traction actuator assembly. After which verify the brake fluid amount in the reservoir while checking for any fluid leaks. Installation of the air cleaner case sub-assembly occurs for the 2AR-FE while the 2GR-FE requires the air cleaner case.
