2009 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the front shock absorber with coil spring on 2009 Toyota Prius?
A: The front shock absorber installation process starts with securing its front position using two bolts that fasten to the steering knuckle of the vehicle. A wooden block next to the shock absorber and jack enables slow jack elevation which positions the shock absorber's upper section by the vehicle before tightening 3 nuts to 39 Nm (398 kgf-cm, 29 ft-lbf). The installation begins with threading front flexible hose No. 1 and the speed sensor front LH into the shock absorber before torquing the bolt to 19 Nm (192 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf). Pay attention to prevent twisting the speed sensor during this process. Fasten the front stabilizer link assembly LH to the front shock absorber by torquing the nut to 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft-lbf). During this process use a 6 mm hexagon wrench on the stud to prevent ball joint rotation. The windshield wiper motor and link should be installed with cowl top ventilator louvers LH and RH before fitting the hood to cowl top seal and front wiper arms LH, RH and their matching front wiper arm head caps. Front wheels should be installed before performing front wheel alignment checks and tightening them to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf).
