2009 Toyota Prius Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the brake master cylinder on 2009 Toyota Prius?
A: The first step for master cylinder installation involves coupling the brake master cylinder push rod clevis along with locking the nut after altering the brake pedal position. Lithium soap base glycol grease should be used to coat two new grommets before installing the No. 1 brake master cylinder union together with two grommets by screw where torque should be set to 1.8 Nm (18 kgf-cm, 16 in-lbf). Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 helps to attach the brake tube and 2-way to both brake master cylinder while torquing it at 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf). The brake master cylinder must have a gasket inserted between before securing its position on the bracket with two nuts that receive a 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) torque. Connect the brake tubes of No. 2 and 1 front to the clamp and brake master cylinder with Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 before torquing them to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf). Fasten the bolt to the actuator bracket while torquing it to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in-lbf) and secure the two reservoir tube hoses with 4 clips installed. Use the brake master cylinder push rod pin to join the clevis to the brake pedal before adding both the clip along with the brake pedal return spring. Begin by constructing the inverter with converter before securing the 7 bolts to the outer front cowl top panel and torquing them to 6.4 Nm (65 kgf-cm, 57 in-lbf). Clamp down 3 fasteners to the panel surface. The installation of the engine room number 2 R/B requires 2 bolts to be torqued to 8.4 Nm (86 kgf-cm, 74 in-lbf). Install the windshield wiper motor and link assembly then fill the brake fluid reservoir before bleeding air from both master cylinder and stroke simulator. Check brake fluid leaks while adjusting the fluid level up to the MAX line when the power switch is on (IG). Perform checks of the brake height and inspect free play and establish the reserve distance before completion. The assembly includes installing the lower instrument panel finish panel with the No. 1 instrument panel register. Run the brake system initialization procedure while completing the check and clear of the DTC.
