How to service and repair Liftgate Lift Support on 2009 Toyota Matrix?

Beginning the service process for trunk or liftgate shock supports requires removing the back door stay assembly. Touching the shock stroke areas should be avoided to let foreign materials stay off the rod yet maintain good handling of the cylinder when repairing. Avoid using cotton gloves or any comparable materials because their fibers create gas leaks to the cylinders so maintain cylinder position straight to prevent any deformation. A wrapped screwdriver should be used to take out the stop ring which runs in the groove before releasing the ball joint while allowing the back door stay assembly to come out together with hand support for the door. Chime away the back door stay bolt and after that remove the back door upper damper stay bracket by removing the two bolts which secure it.
