Before installing the back door upper damper stay bracket users must clean the threaded vehicle body portion with non-residue solvent while applying Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324, or an equivalent to the 2 bolt threads. Use Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324 or equivalent to coat the bolt threads on the bracket before installing it with the bolts torqued to 7.5 Nm (77 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf). Install the new stay bolt after cleaning the vehicle body threads with non-residue solvent by torquing it to 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft-lbf). To reuse the back door stay bolt users should wash the threaded surface, apply adhesive to the threaded area followed by bolt installation at 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft-lbf). Avoid contact with the back door stay rod stroke areas to stop foreign materials from adhering and refrain from using cotton gloves and applying any horizontal stresses on the cylinders to prevent deforming this component. Before installing the back door stay assembly clients must insert the stop rings simultaneously then hand-support the back door with proper hood support engagement into the ball joint.
