- Q: How to disassemble the alternator on 2009 Scion xD?A: The alternator disassembly process begins with removing the generator clutch pulley by unscrewing the pulley cap with a screwdriver then setting the Rotor Shaft Holding Tool (SST: 09820-63021) and Clutch Pulley Wrench before clamping the Tool in a vise while slotting the rotor shaft into it. Start by connecting the Clutch Pulley Wrench to the clutch pulley and twisting it counterclockwise to loosen it before extracting the generator assembly from the SST as well as the clutch pulley from the rotor shaft. Set the generator assembly on the clutch pulley before removing its 3 nuts together with the generator rear end cover. The generator coil should start by removing its terminal insulator before proceeding to uninstall the brush holder assembly through its two screws. You should remove the generator coil assembly by first unbolting the 4 units and thereafter using the specified SST set to extract it. After extracting both components the generator rear end cover and the generator rotor assembly should come off. The drive end frame bearing can be tapped out from the frame using Special Service Tool (SST: 09950-60010, 09951-00250) together with a hammer (SST: 09950-70010, 09951-07100).
