  A: The first step to remove the water pump of a 1NZ-FE engine starts by disconnecting the negative battery cable terminal. Next, drain the engine coolant. First remove the right-hand under cover from the engine and then take out the fan and the generator V belt. Next proceed to remove the generator assembly together with the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly from the right-hand side. The water pump pulley requires Special Service Tools: 09960-10010, 09962-01000, and 09963-00700 for holding the pulley before you can unscrew the three securing bolts. Finish the replacement by uninstalling the water pump assembly which requires three bolt removal combined with two nut removal while you need to discard the gasket.
