2008 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disassemble the power Rack And Pinion on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The power rack and pinion should be placed in a vise using Special Service Tool: 09612-00012 while protecting it with tape. Reinstall this tool when necessary. First mark the tie rod end LH and rack end before taking out the tie rod end LH along with its lock nut. Proceed with the tie rod end RH according to the identical step. Apply pliers to take off the two rack boot clips which are installed on both the LH and RH sides of the system. Scrape loose the No. 2 rack and pinion boot clamp using a screwdriver until free while protecting the boot before applying the same approach to the No. 1 rack and pinion boot clamp. Somewhat lower the No. 2 and No. 1 rack and pinion boots. Use Special Service Tool: 09922-10010 in the correct direction to detach the rack end sub-assembly on the LH side by securely holding the rack and pinion. Apply this step to the second side of the unit as well.
