2008 Toyota Prius Rack And Pinion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the Rack And Pinion assembly on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: Start by placing the rack and pinion assembly from the left side of the vehicle where it will avoid striking the stabilizer bar. The rack and pinion must receive the No. 1 column hole cover before you install it to the crossmember using 4 bolts at 58 Nm (591 kgf-cm, 43 ft-lbf) torque. Move the No. 1 column hole cover to the upper side of the vehicle then align matchmarks before installing the intermediate shaft inside the vehicle while protecting the cover. Fasten the bolt to 35 Nm (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft-lbf) while making sure the recessed part of the No. 1 column hole cover fits properly against the rack and pinion. The installation of the front No. 1 stabilizer bracket LH and RH follows the same steps while installing the front stabilizer link assemblies LH and RH. Perform the same installation method for the tie rod end sub-assembly of No. 1 followed by No. 2. Proceed to install the front wheel with 103Nm of torque (1,050kgf-cm, 76ft-lbf), then secure the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly by using clip B to the vehicle body and fastening the cover with clip A while ensuring the lip rests correctly on the dash panel. Place the front wheels in a forward direction before setting the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly onto the intermediate shaft through bolt B which needs to be torques to 35 Nm (360 kgf-cm, 26 ft-lbf) followed by tightening bolt A to match the same torque setting. The column hole cover silencer sheet installation will begin while connecting the cable to the negative terminal but some systems demand system initialization after the reconnection process. To complete the process test and adjust the front wheel alignment while performing the steering angle sensor zero point calibration.
