The power steering rack and pinion needs removal by setting the front wheels straight before disconnecting the negative battery cable for a minimum period of 90 seconds to avoid triggering Air Bags and
Seat Belt pretensioners. If your system requires it the cable must be initialized following cable reconnection. Next, remove the column hole cover silencer sheet, then separate the steering sliding yoke sub-assembly by fixing the
Steering Wheel with the seat belt to prevent rotation, marking the sliding yoke and intermediate shaft, loosening the bolt labeled A, and removing the bolt labeled B. Disconnect the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly by removing the clip labeled A and disconnecting the hole cover from the body, taking care not to damage the clip labeled B. Proceed to remove the front wheels, then disconnect the No. 2 tie rod end sub-assembly, followed by the No. 1 tie rod end sub-assembly using the same procedure. Follow the same removal process twice to take off the front stabilizer link assembly LH and RH as well as the front No. 1 stabilizer bracket LH and RH. To remove the steering intermediate shaft start by moving the No. 1 column hole cover to the top side of the car while marking the intermediate shaft and the rack and pinion then remove the bolt before pulling out the shaft from inside and completing the removal by taking off the No. 1 column hole cover from the rack and pinion without injuring the clip. The rack and pinion assembly should be removed by discharging the left-side 4 bolts while extracting the rack and pinion component without harming the stabilizer bar.
