    Q:
How to calibrate the torque sensor zero point when removing and installing the steering wheel, tilt steering column, or electric power Rack And Pinion on Toyota Prius? Posted by Customer
    A:
The zero point calibration for the torque sensor needs to be carried out throughout events involving steering wheel replacement combined with installing or removing the steering wheel or tilt steering column or electric power rack and pinion or when replacing the Electromagnetic Power Steering ECU. Start the procedure with front wheels standing straight ahead and the steering wheel in its forward position. Users of the TOYOTA hand-held tester should park the vehicle then link the unit to DLC3 before selecting "TRQ SENS ADJUST." Choose "ZERO POINT INITIALIZE" along with following the display instructions; note that replacing the EMPS ECU voids this calibration step. Drivers using the TOYOTA hand-held tester should halt the vehicle and link DLC3's terminals Ts and CG through Special Service Tool: 09843-18040 and then attach Tc and CG terminals of DLC3 followed by 20 ON-OFF cycles of Tc within 20 seconds for DTC C1515/15 detection. To calibrate the torque sensor zero point with the TOYOTA hand-held tester, do not alter the position of the steering wheel, choose "TRQ SENS ADJUST" and then "ZERO POINT ADJUST" then follow the screens' guidance. When working without the TOYOTA hand-held tester, the steering wheel must remain untouched and only DTC C1515/15 should be shown; stop the vehicle, turn the ignition switch OFF, use Special Service Tool: 09843-18040 to connect DLC3 terminals Ts and CG, and turn the ignition switch ON before removing the tool.
