2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Properly Replace an Oil Filter on 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The oil filter replacement process requires unblocking the oil filler cap first and unscrewing the 2 No. 2 engine under cover seal bolts then draining all the oil through the oil pan drain plug gasket before putting a new gasket and torquing it to 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf). First absorb the engine oil while removing front fender splash shield sub-assemblies from both sides then take out the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly. The process to remove the oil filter element requires installing a 15 mm ID pipe hose to the drain plug opening before linking it to the oil filter cap while collecting the draining oil in a container. Check for drained oil and next untether the pipe from the oil filter cap before taking the O-ring off. Use Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 to remove the oil filter cap without separating the oil filter bracket clip. After that remove the oil filter element along with its O-ring. Handle the O-ring manually to prevent damage. The installation process includes cleansing the oil filter cap followed by applying engine oil to a new O-ring before installing it onto the cap and then mounting a fresh oil filter element. The installation surface should be cleaned before applying additional engine oil to the O-ring and placing the oil filter cap on without detached the bracket clip. The O-ring stability requires the proper application of torque 25 Nm (255 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf) using Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 to secure the filter while avoiding O-ring compression. Start by installing the drain plug O-ring. Next, tighten the oil filter drain plug with a torque of 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). Proceed with installation of the No. 2 engine under cover seal that requires tightening of the 2 bolts up to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf). Complete the oil change procedure by putting fresh oil into the car, reinstalling the filler cap, allowing the engine to start while you check for leaks, before checking the engine oil level.
