2008 Toyota Highlander Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the alternator assembly and related components on 2008 Toyota Highlander?
A: The wire harness clamp stay needs to be fastened using a bolt that should be torqued to 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf) before connecting the generator bracket to the wire harness clamp. Use 2 bolts to install the generator assembly by first making a partial tension then achieving 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf), and afterward 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf). The generator assembly requires the generator wire connection that requires targeting nut torque at 9.8 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 87 in-lbf) and then installing the terminal cap. Per the instructions connect two 3 wire harness clamps and the magnetic clutch connector to both the compressor and magnetic clutch. Circular Step 2 involves placing a new O-ring on the No. 2 oil level dipstick guide before applying engine oil for lubrication and correctly fitting the guide into the No.1 oil level dipstick guide by torquing the bolt to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf). The installation order includes placing the radiator assembly followed by the fan assembly with its motor and cooler condenser assembly and upper radiator support sub-assembly and hood lock assembly (which may require the engine hood courtesy switch). Secure the radiator grille and connect the cooling fan ECU connector together with the oil cooler hose and both No. 2 and No. 1 radiator hoses. Installation of the No. 1 and No. 2 air cleaner inlets should be accompanied by the battery installation along with cool air intake duct seal, front fender apron seal RH, and front fender liner RH. You should complete front fender moulding sub-assembly RH installation by following the same procedure for the left-hand side. Engine coolant should be added while inspecting coolant and oil leak points and conducting an automatic transaxle fluid check. Conclude by adding the No. 1 engine under cover then link it with the engine under cover assembly and front wheel RH while tightening them to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf) standards before placing the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
