• Q: How to replace the oil filter and engine oil on 2008 Scion xD?

  A: The first step to change the oil filter and engine oil for the 2ZR-FE lubrication system includes draining engine oil through removing the oil pan drain plug and waiting for complete oil flow. After cleaning the drain plug you should install it with a new gasket while torquing it to 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft-lbf). The Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 enables easy removal of the oil filter cap during the process while catching any flowing oil in a container. Rotating the cap four turns will enable oil to flow between it and the oil pan. The cap's O-ring should be extracted manually from its groove without harming the filter element. Clean all surfaces inside and on the cap of the oil filter and the threads and O-ring groove. After application of a small drop of engine oil to the O-ring placed it onto the cap. The new oil filter should be inserted into the cap following engine installation surface clean-up and additional engine oil treatment on the O-ring for the cap installation. Use Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 to tighten the cap at 25 Nm (255 kgf-cm, 18 ft-lbf) to achieve proper seat of the filter and the O-ring. When done you need to add new oil while checking the correct oil volume then scan for leaks or inspect the oily state.
