2008 Scion tC Water Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the water pump on 2008 Scion tC?
A: Professionals should disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal before removing the water pump from the 2AZ-FE engine by sustaining at least 90 seconds of wait time to deactivate Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner systems. First drain the engine coolant before taking off the front fender apron seal on the right side and then the engine under cover on the right side. The early step needs to remove the V belts between the fan and generator before taking off the generator unit. The water pump pulley requires Special Service Tools 09960-10010 09962-01000 for bolt removal of its four securing bolts. The first step to detach the water pump assembly requires the crankshaft position sensor clamp removal from the water pump followed by the wire separation from the clamp bracket. The clamp bracket together with the 4 bolts and 2 nuts must be removed next. A screwdriver should be used to create space between the water pump and cylinder block for water pump extraction with caution to prevent damage to both parts.
