• Q: How to install the water pump assembly on 2008 Scion tC?

  A: The installation process for the 2AZ-FE cooling system water pump assembly requires removal of old seal packing and application of new material (Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent) extending from 2.2 mm to 2.5 mm (0.09 to 0.10 in.) in standard seal diameter. After oil gets wiped off the contact surface the parts need to be set no later than 3 minutes after seal packing application or the material must be discarded and reapplied. After installing the water pump and clamp bracket through 4 bolts and 2 nuts tighten them to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf). Through the clamp bracket connect the wire of the crankshaft position sensor then fasten the clamp in position on the water pump. To install the water pump pulley within 4 bolts utilize Special Service Tools: 09960-10010, 09962-01000, 09963-00700 and torque each bolt to 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft-lbf). Install the generator assembly then install both the fan and the generator V belt. Put engine coolant into the system before attaching the negative battery cable connection and looking for any coolant leakage. Position the engine under cover to the right-hand side before placing the front fender apron seal on RH. Proceed with initialization since some system updates occur when cable connections are removed from and returned to the negative (-) terminal.
