2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2007 Scion tC?
A: A proper water pump repair requires beginning by disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable before waiting at least 90 seconds for protection against Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner operation. The service begins with draining engine coolant before proceeding to uninstall the front fender apron seal RH along with the engine under cover RH, fan and generator V belt and generator assembly. The removal of the water pump pulley begins by using Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700) to uninstall the 4 bolts securing the pulley. Detach the clamp of the crankshaft position sensor from the water pump then disconnect its wire from the clamp bracket while removing the 4 bolts, 2 nuts, and clamp bracket. Use the recommended tool to safe between the water pump and cylinder block until the water pump releases while maintaining contact surface integrity. To install the water pump apply seal packing material (Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent) as a continuous line with 2.2 to 2.5 mm (0.09 to 0.10 inch) standard diameter. Both the contact surface and all parts must remain oil-free when seal packing is applied. The parts should be positioned within three minutes following this procedure. You must first torques the clamp bracket with 4 bolts and 2 nuts to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.). Following that tighten the water pump with the bolts before reconnecting the crankshaft position sensor's wire and clamp. Fasten the water pump pulley with the 4 bolts through Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700), applying torque to 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.). Installation of the generator assembly and fan and generator V belt must be completed after adding engine coolant and reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal and checking for engine coolant leakage and reinstalling the engine under cover RH and front fender apron seal RH. The process ends by performing initialization because some systems need it when reattaching the cable to the negative battery terminal after cable removal.
