2007 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Cable on 2007 Toyota Yaris?
A: The first step for servicing the transmission control cable entails unclipping it from the negative battery terminal. The service and repair of Hatchback transmission control cables demands removal of the shift lever knob sub-assembly alongside the rear console box assembly. The servicing process of Sedan models requires the removal of instrument panel finish panel lower center and shift lever knob sub-assembly with upper console panel sub-assembly followed by console upper rear panel sub-assembly and console box carpet and rear console box assembly. The first step includes removing the front exhaust pipe assembly and disconnecting the oxygen sensor connector. You must also separate the front floor heat insulator No.1 by uninstalling its 2 bolts and nut. The transmission control cable assembly removal process starts with disconnecting the control shift cable from the shift lever followed by turning the lock to release it then removing the clip prior to disconnecting the control select cable from the shift lever. Disconnect the transmission control cable with three nuts after removing its clips from both the transaxle and control cable bracket. Attach the transmission control cable assembly through its 3 nuts using a torque of 5.0 N m (51 kgf cm, 44 in. lbf). Align the control cable closer end to face upwards during installation and check that the cable outer lock is appropriately set. The replacement clip should link the control shift cable with the shift lever and control cable bracket before connecting it to the transaxle through the washer. Repeat these steps again for the control select cable while maintaining the adjustable mechanism lock on the left side of the vehicle and properly inserting the clip in place. The control select cable requires length adjustment by moving the adjuster case cover and stretching the cable before locking it while sliding the cover beyond the lock piece. Return the front floor heat insulator No.1 to its place with both bolts and nut fastened at 5.5 N m (56 kgf cm, 49 in. lbf). After that complete the connection of the front exhaust pipe assembly and reconnect the oxygen sensor connector. The repair process ends with attaching the rear console box assembly together with shift lever knob sub-assembly for Hatchback and Sedan-specific components followed by connecting the negative terminal cable and applying 5.4 N m (55 kgf cm, 48 in. lbf) torque.
