2007 Toyota Yaris Shift Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Cable in a Transmission Control Assembly on 2007 Toyota Yaris?
A: Start transmission control cable assembly servicing and repair by taking out the center lower instrument panel finish panel for Sedan models as well as the upper console panel sub-assembly for Sedan models and the rear console box cover for Hatchback models and the rear upper console panel sub-assembly for Sedan models. Service access begins with removing the console box carpet followed by taking out the rear console box assembly together with the battery and battery tray as well as the air cleaner assembly and related bracket. Work on the oxygen sensor connector by first pulling back the floor carpet before disconnecting it while taking out the grommet until you place its connector outside the vehicle. A technician must detach the front exhaust pipe assembly and front No. 1 floor heat insulator by extracting the 2 bolts plus nut. Complete transmission control cable assembly disconnection requires workers to separate it from the shift lever using the nut then separate it from the shift lever retainer and disconnect it from the control cable support followed by nut removal to disconnect from the control shaft lever and clip removal to separate from the control cable bracket. You should remove the control cable by taking out its three nuts. To install the transmission control cable assembly connect it first to the control shaft lever by tightening a nut to 12 N m and next to the control cable bracket with a new clip. To install the control cable you must connect it to the clamp and fasten it using 3 nuts tightened at 5.0 N m (51 kgf cm, 44 in. lbf). To complete the installation attach the control cable to the shift lever where the lock of the adjusting mechanism needs to be positioned on the left side of the vehicle. The installation process includes front No. 1 floor heat insulator reattachment using two bolts secured with a nut that requires 5.5 N m (56 kgf cm, 49 in. lbf) torque along with the front exhaust pipe assembly. Insert the oxygen sensor connector through the floor panel hole before installing its grommet and finally connecting it. Propagate the order by returning the air cleaner bracket followed by the air cleaner assembly and battery tray and battery. The technician should inspect and position the shift lever correctly before reinstalling the components which include the rear console box assembly and console box carpet followed by the rear console box cover for Hatchback models and the rear upper console panel sub-assembly for Sedan models while also reinstalling the upper console panel sub-assembly for Sedan models along with the center lower instrument panel finish panel for Sedan models. As the last step, verify exhaust gas leakage.
