- Q: How to service and repair the parking brake cable on 2007 Toyota Tundra?A: When servicing the parking brake cable it is essential to disconnect the battery cable first then wait at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag activation along with pretensioner deployment. Also record the navigation system settings before proceeding. First remove the instrument side panel LH and then separate the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly LH with the addition of No. 1 instrument panel safety pad insert. Once disconnected the parking brake cable assembly from number 1 then release the parking brake pedal. Disassembly of the 1GR-FE includes removing front No. 3 exhaust pipe sub-assembly together with the front No. 2 exhaust pipe assembly; perform this step again for the 2UZ-FE and 3UR-FE vehicles. The procedure for removing the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly depends on the wheelbase type and requires a straight cable path before moving onto rear wheel LH removal and subsequent disconnection of the rear disk brake cylinder assembly LH with subsequent removal of rear disk and parking brake shoe return spring LH alongside both parking brake shoe assemblies LH. All necessary procedures begin with parking brake shoe lever LH removal together with intermediate lever tension spring and No. 2 cable retainer before moving onto No. 3 parking brake cable assembly. The technicians must perform the same procedure again for the rear wheel on the right-hand side and its components. The installation sequence begins with the No. 2 cable support bracket after which the parking brake intermediate lever sub-assembly goes followed by MP grease application in necessary areas. Securing the correct torque values on all bolts represents key criteria during installation of the parking brake cable assembly No. 3.
