2007 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Vapor Canister on 2007 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The service and repair of the Evaporative Emission Control Canister requires fuel system pressure discharge and negative battery terminal cable removal. First disconnect the main tube of the fuel tank and fuel tank return tube followed by removing the fuel tank assembly. You must remove Charcoal Canister Filter No. 2 by initially removing the bolt and ABS wire harness clamp then gradually releasing the EVAP pipe from the hose clamp before disconnecting the breather hose from the pipe while disengaging the hose clamp to finally remove the breather hose from the charcoal canister before taking out the nut and the filter. The fuel tank vent hose removal requires pinching the retainer followed by pulling the connector out from the charcoal canister assembly while the bolt and two nuts stay in place and after disconnecting the connector and EVAP tube. The fuel tank vent hose connector must be free from all dirt particles before installation while avoiding any damage to air intake parts during the process. Proceed with work by hand rather than using tools while holding separated parts with vinyl covering. Pushing and pulling the stuck fuel vent connector and pipe will help to unlock them. To install the fuel tank vent hose simply orient its connector with pipe while pushing it toward the pipe until the click is heard. You should examine the connector for foreign debris and operating scratches before making your connection secure by pulling the quick connector. Use the bolt with two nuts to install the charcoal canister before torquing them to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). Then attach the EVAP tube and connector. Install the nut on Charcoal Canister Filter No. 2 while torquing it to 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) then join the breather hose to its pipe and clamp. After that thread the EVAP pipe into the clamp before securing the ABS wire harness clamp with bolt torqued at 14 N.m (142 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf). The final stage includes installing the fuel tank assembly followed by connecting the fuel tank main tube and fuel tank return and reinstalling the cable to the negative terminal while torquing it to 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) then conducting a fuel leakage inspection.
