2007 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the park/neutral safety switch on 2007 Toyota Sienna?
A: A service or repair process for the park/neutral position switch begins by disassembling the battery and air cleaner assembly followed by disconnecting the transmission control cable assembly which requires removal of the control shaft lever nut then cable separation from the lever before disconnecting the bracket cable using a clip while maintaining the resin guide pipe position. The operation starts by removing the park/neutral position switch connector followed by removing the nut and washer and control shaft lever. You can then detach the lock plate with a screwdriver to finally pull out the switch and remove its lock nut and plate. The inspection of switch assembly operates through a test method which starts with engaging the parking brake then turning the ignition to ON; the engine must start only when the lever points to N or P positions and the Back Up light coupled with the reverse warning buzzer turns on only in R position; investigating continuity if any fault appears. The resistance test requires vehicle lifting and disconnecting the switch connector to measure resistance values during shift lever positioning. The switch adjustment requires users to loosen the two bolts and position the shift lever at N while aligning the groove to the neutral basic line then keeping the switch in position before torquing bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Perform another operation inspection after the adjustment completion. Install the park/neutral position switch to the manual valve shaft while installing two bolts temporarily. Then position the new lock plate with a nut tightening torque of 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.) and keep two screws loose. Next, connect the control shaft lever in a temporary manner by rotating it counterclockwise to a stop then clockwise two notches before removing it. Finally, align the groove with the neutral basic line while keeping the switch in position and tighten bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). After bending the tabs of the lock plate install the control shaft lever along with its washer followed by securing the nut with 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque before joining the switch connector. Next, connect the transmission control cable assembly through leveraging the control cable on the control shaft lever at 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) torque with a new clip attached to the bracket afterwards you can adjust and inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly operation along with examining and readjusting the shift lever position before installing the air cleaner assembly and battery.
