2007 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Drive Shaft assembly on 2007 Toyota Sequoia?
A: Service and repair of the 2WD propeller shaft assembly requires marking the differential and propeller shaft flanges before removing the four nuts and washers to extract the transmission-mounted propeller shaft yoke. The Transmission should receive Special Service Tool: 09325-40010 to stop oil leakage. The process of disassembly starts with matchmarking the shaft and yoke followed by using a mixture of brass bar and hammer on the bearing outer race to remove the snap ring which subsequently requires needle nose pliers to remove the 4 snap rings. Special Service Tool: 09332-25010 provides bearing pushing capability to remove the bearing from the flange yoke but ensure to lift the indicated part away from the bearing. Secure the bearing outer race in a vise before hitting the disconnected flange with the help of a hammer moving onto the other side. Clamp the spider with both bearing outer races into a vise while Special Service Tool: 09332-25010 extracts the bearing from the sleeve yoke. After clamping the outer race in the vise position the yoke by tapping with a hammer. Client technicians should use a dial indicator to check the propeller shaft and intermediate shaft for damage and runout. Evaluations must show maximum runout below 0.8 mm (0.031 inch) before considering new shaft replacement. Use a dial indicator to check axial shaft movement under tight force while inspecting the spider bearing condition until replacing when it reaches 0.0020 inches (0.05 mm). Install new spider and bearings by applying MP grease to both components before fitting the spider inside the yoke. At this point use Special Service Tool: 09332-25010 to install the bearing onto the spider while making sure the snap ring grooves maintain maximum width equality. Secure two new snap rings with equal thickness that enable 0 to 0.05 mm (0 to 0.0020 inch) axial motion while maintaining one fresh pair of snap rings and hammering the yoke until it shows no gap between the bearing outer race and snap rings. The smooth operation of spider bearings and 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) maximum axial play must be checked before new spider bearings on the flange side are needed. Install the yoke by first removing Special Service Tool: 09325-40010 from the transmission then insert the yoke into place before aligning the matchmarks on the flanges. Connect the flanges with the washers and nuts then torque them to 88 Nm (897 kgf-cm, 65 ft. lbs.).
