2007 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2007 Toyota RAV4?
A: The procedure to uninstall and install the Engine Control Module (ECM) requires users to disconnect the negative battery cable followed by a minimum 90-second waiting period to deactivate Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners. Start by removing the air cleaner cap and the air cleaner case through a process of harness clamp detachment alongside three bolt removal. Start by removing the ECM after removing its bracket through three bolts and unconnecting its two connectors while ensuring the connectors remain free from any contact with dirt or water or foreign matter. To disconnect the connectors elevate both levers which will activate the locks before you can extract the ECM assembly with its bracket as well as the 4 screws and 2 ECM brackets. Install the 2 ECM brackets to their position on the ECM using torqued 4 screws to 3.0 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf) before connecting the 2 ECM connectors that should remain free from debris. Install the ECM while securing the two levers then use the three bolts at 6.5 N.m (66 kgf.cm, 57 in.lbf) torque. Fasten the air cleaner case with 3 bolts at 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) while repurchasing the harness clamp followed by air cleaner cap installation. Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal followed by VIN entry into the replacement ECM and running the vehicle stability control system recognition procedure. To clear the existing memory operators must use the Reset Memory procedure following ECM replacement.
