2007 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front crankshaft seal on 2007 Toyota Matrix?
A: Start front crankshaft seal servicing by taking off the engine under cover on the right-hand side followed by the right-hand front wheel. Start by removing the V belts for the fan and generator followed by the removal of the engine mounting insulator on the right-hand side and the crankshaft pulley with Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000). You should start by using a knife to notate the oil seal lip then use a taped screwdriver as a tool to pry out the seal from its location. Drill the crankshaft for damage before smoothing rough edges with sandpaper of 400-grit. Installation of new oil seals requires multi-purpose grease on their lips and the maintenance of foreign objects away from the application area. Seal the new oil seal in place with a hammer using Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 and make sure to keep the tool perpendicular to the timing chain cover edge until its surface becomes level with the cover width while cleaning away excess grease from the crankshaft. Retain the crankshaft pulley through Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) before installing the engine mounting insulator RH and reinstalling the front wheel RH with the specified torque of 103 N m (1,050 kgf cm, 76 ft. lbf). Engine oil leakage needs a final check.
