2007 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2007 Toyota Matrix?
A: Air brake boosting service requires draining of brake fluid followed by cleaning painted surfaces from any residue. You need to remove the air cleaner element and pull out the 3 bolts to disconnect both the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and air cleaner case sub-assembly. First disconnect the brake master cylinder sub-assembly and untie its brake master cylinder push rod clevis. You need Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to detach front brake tube No. 5 with a clip for discharging the vacuum hose as you detangle the 2 or 3 brake tubes from the clamp before pulling out the brake booster assembly. The brake booster assembly requires separation of its brake booster gasket and check valve assembly with grommet. Installation begins by placing the grommet with check valve assembly before applying the new brake booster gasket. First adjust the brake pedal height then fasten the push rod clevis with the lock nut. Start by putting the 4 brake booster assembly nuts then torque them to 12.7 N m (130 kgf cm, 9 ft. lbf) and finally install the 2 or 3 brake tubes to their clamp while connecting the vacuum hose. You need Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to attach front brake tube No. 5 while torquing it to 15 N m (155 kgf cm, 11 ft. lbf) which should include proper grommet positioning. The front wheel LH installation requires 103 N m (1,050 kgf cm, 76 ft. lbf) torque while connecting the brake master cylinder push rod clevis followed by brake master cylinder sub-assembly installation. Reinstall the air cleaner cap sub-assembly first followed by the air cleaner element and then reinstall the air cleaner case sub-assembly using 3 bolts. Rephrase the following sentence. Utilize brake fluid to fill the reservoir and utilize Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to bleed the master cylinder before proceeding to bleed the brake line. Inspect brake pedal height and adjust free play then check the reserve distance and fluid level in the reservoir. Together with brake fluid leak checks and brake booster assembly inspection.
