2007 Toyota Matrix A/C Clutch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and replace the A/C Clutch and compressor on 2007 Toyota Matrix?
A: The first step to replace the compressor and magnetic clutch for the 1ZZ-FE requires refrigerant discharge from the refrigeration system. Unscrew the bolt to disconnect the suction hose sub-assembly between the compressor and magnetic clutch from cooler refrigerant suction hose No. 1 before removing the attached O-ring. Take vinyl tape to cover all sealed openings on detached parts to stop both moisture and foreign substances from getting inside. The first step is to detach the discharge hose sub-assembly from the compressor and magnetic clutch after removing the bolt and disconnecting it from the compressor and magnetic clutch before removing the O-ring and sealing all openings with vinyl tape. First disconnect the connector and remove all 3 bolts from the compressor and magnetic clutch then take off the generator V belt together with the fan and engine under cover RH. Begin installation by fastening the compressor and magnetic clutch with their three bolts and tighten bolt A only until the compressor reaches proper position before finishing installation. From behind the compressor place downward pressure while torquing bolts B, C, and A to 24.5 N.m (250 kgf.cm, 18 ft.lbf) in sequential order. The discharge hose installation requires compressor oil on the new O-ring surface before fitting the component with a secure bolt torque of 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). The procedure should be followed for the suction hose sub-assembly by applying compressor oil to the new O-ring and fit surface before securing it. The process ends with refrigerant charging followed by engine heating while examining for any refrigerant losses.
