2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the rear Drive Shaft assembly on 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The service process for the rear propeller shaft assembly begins through removal of the assembly followed by marking both the propeller shaft flange and transferring the marks afterward removing each of the 4 nuts and 4 washers. After performing matchmarks on the propeller shaft flange and rear differential you should detach the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and 4 washers to extract the rear propeller shaft. Measure the rear propeller shaft runout using a dial indicator because excessive measurement above 0.8 mm (0.031 inch) requires a new shaft replacement. The assessment for spider bearing damage requires a check for wear and damage together with measuring axial play through yoke turning under shaft tension. Replace the spider bearing if axial play exceeds 0 mm (0 inch). When placing the propeller shaft tube in a vise for disassembly maintain proper grip pressure to stop the tube from bending. After placing matchmarks proceed by pulling out the sleeve yoke from the rear propeller shaft universal joint assembly. Illuminate the dust cover section at the pressing point by cutting it in a helical pattern before gently removing the cover without harming the propeller shaft. To disassemble the universal joint spider assembly start by marking affected parts then tapping the bearing outer races until snap rings can be removed while employing Special Service Tool: 09332-25010 for pushing the bearing out of the flange. Position the bearing outer race in a vise clamp before tapping off the flange and finally removing the flange yoke from the sleeve yoke. Install the bearing outer races to the spider before using Special Service Tool: 09332-25010 to push out the yoke bearing again while clamping the outer race in a vise to tap off the yoke. To build the universal joint spider assembly begin with selecting bearings according to the yoke section drill marks followed by applying MP grease to new spider and bearings and finally using Special Service Tool: 09332-25010 to install the bearings by adjusting them for equal snap ring groove width. Introduce two entirely new snap rings that produce zero millimeter (0 inch) separating space between the bearing outer race and snap ring. Customer should first position the matchmarks correctly before installing the flange yoke to the sleeve yoke or propeller shaft. Next, Customer should install two new spider bearings together with snap rings at the flange yoke side. To install the rear propeller shaft sliding shaft dust cover sub-assembly with Special Service Tool: 09636-20010 and a press, keep the universal joint straight while applying MP grease to part 'A'. The installation of the rear propeller shaft universal joint sleeve yoke sub-assembly requires aligning matchmarks while applying MP grease to the propeller shaft spline and sleeve yoke sliding surface and placing the propeller shaft inside the sleeve yoke. To check the proper function of the spider bearing inspect how fluidly it moves in addition to determining its axial movement should be under 0 mm (0 inch). The last step involves installing the rear propeller shaft through alignment of transfer flange and propeller shaft flange matchmarks followed by connecting the assembly with four washers and four nuts torqued to 106 Nm (1,080 kgf-cm, 78 ft. lbs.) and completing the installation by aligning flange matchmarks and securing it with four bolts four washers and four nuts torqued again to 106 Nm (1,080 kgf-cm, 78 ft. lbs.).
