• Q: How to service the rear wiper motor on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?

  A: At the beginning of rear wiper motor maintenance start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Start the service by removing back door trim covers from right and left sides and the door trim retainer cap followed by back door trim board and back door service hole cover. The rear wiper arm must be removed by first accessing the rear wiper arm head cap to open it for exposure of the nut and assembly components. Separate the connector then detach the three bolts which fix the rear wiper motor in place. Reconnect the connector after securing the three bolts that hold down the rear wiper motor while torquing them to 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf). The rear wiper arm and blade assembly installation requires you to clean up metal powder with a round file on the serrated wiper arm section and wash away debris from wiper pivot serrations with a wire brush before operating the wiper and stopping the windshield wiper motor at automatic stop position. Secure the rear wiper arm with its nut torqued at 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf) after positioning it according to indications while the slider must be tightened at 20 mm below the rise-up position during the rotational motion before setting the slider back to rise-up position and sealing the rear wiper arm head cap. Reinstall the back door service hole cover while also installing back door trim board, door trim retainer cap, back door trim covers on both sides before connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal and tightening it to 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm and 35 in.lbf).
