2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the alternator on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: The first step to remove the alternator requires battery disconnection before removing both the V-bank cover and the No. 1 engine under cover subassembly. You need to begin by removing the fan alongside the generator V belt before proceeding with generator assembly separation. The wire harness requires removal by unfastening its bolt then its wire harness stay before disconnecting the generator assembly connector and removing the terminal cap and nut which allows wire harness separation from terminal B. The first task involves removing two bolts to detach the wire harness clamp bracket from the generator assembly followed by disassembly with two more bolts of the generator assembly. The generator assembly must be installed with two bolts and you should ensure a torque of 43 N.m (438 kgf.cm, 32 ft.lbf). Begin by screwing the wire harness clamp bracket with two bolts at 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) torque, then connect terminal B to the wire harness and fasten the nut with a torque of 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Finish by attaching the wire harness stay to the bolt with 5.8 N.m (59 kgf.cm, 51 in.lbf) torque before connecting the connector to the generator assembly. The last step includes reinstallation of the fan and generator V belt followed by the No. 1 under cover subassembly along with the V-bank cover and battery reconnection using 3.9 N.m (40 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf).
