2007 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Rack and Pinion Power Steering on 2007 Toyota Corolla?
A: The process of repairing the rack and pinion power steering rack and pinion demands starting by setting the front wheels to straight position followed by wheel removal and subsequent removal of engine under covers along with exhaust pipe assembly front. Use Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to disconnect the tie rod end sub-assemblies and detach clips from column hole cover silencer sheets. Securing the steering wheel with a seatbelt allows the operator to mark the intermediate shaft assembly No. 2 alongside the intermediate shaft followed by lubron bolt A and subsequent removal of bolt B for separation of the intermediate shaft assembly No. 2. Start by removing the steering column hole cover sub-assembly No. 1 then disconnect the pressure feed tube assembly using Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 and both front stabilizer link assemblies (including LH and RH) using the same side procedures. Start by disconnecting the lower sub-assembly of front suspension arms number one for both left and right-hand sides followed by the hood sub-assembly removal and cylinder head cover number two. The engine hangers (No. 1 engine hanger: 12281-22021, No. 2 engine hanger: 12281-15040, Bolt: 91512-B1016, Torque: 38 Nm) should be used to suspend the engine assembly. Afterward, connect an engine chain hoist. Uninstall the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly after separating bolts and nuts while putting it on a transmission jack then take off steering column hole cover sub-assembly No. 1 and the steering intermediate shaft. You should detach all the rack & pinion power steering rack and pinion assembly bolts to remove it. Adhere the rack & pinion power steering rack and pinion assembly to a vise through use of Special Service Tool: 09612-00012 before stripping away left and right turn pressure tubes with Special Service Tool: 09023-38201 to eliminate tie rod end sub-assemblies (LH and RH). Start by detaching the boot clamps before removing the boot clips and steering rack boots. You will use Special Service Tool: 09922-10010 to detach the steering rack end sub-assembly before you remove the rack guide and power steering control valve and their accompanying components with their designated tools. Verifying proper torque on the LH and RH tie rod end sub-assemblies is essential while checking the power steering rack for its runout and wear conditions with runout maximum limitation at 0.1 mm.
