• Q: How to replace the oil filter element on 2007 Toyota Avalon?

  A: Before removing the oil filter element users must connect a 15 mm hose to the pipe and then remove the oil filter drain plug from the oil filter cap. The oil filter cap process requires inserting the pipe with hose attachment through its cap opening while positioning the hose endpoint into a collecting container for oil drainage. Turn the pipe according to the arrow direction before removing it and its O-ring when all drain oil has been exhausted. To achieve the oil filter cap removal you must employ Special Service Tool: 09228-06501 which enables removing the oil filter element and its O-ring while maintaining caution to protect the cap from tool-caused damage. Before installing a new O-ring to the oil filter cap users should clean all parts including the inner cap and threads and groove. A thin layer of engine oil should be spread onto the O-ring before its placement. Before setting the oil filter cap position the O-ring with a new engine oil coating on the engine-facing end. Wipe down the installation area for the new oil filter element and the engine-side inside of the cap and apply another thin layer of engine oil to the O-ring before cap installation. With Special Service Tool (09228-06501) install the oil filter cap by tightening it to 25 N m (255 kgf/cm, 18 ft. lbs.) with no part clearance. The installation of a new O-ring requires a light engine oil coating followed by placement onto the oil filter cap before the addition of the oil filter drain plug which should be tightened to 13 N m (127 kgf/cm, 10 ft. lbs.) torque while avoiding O-ring entrapment. When ready start the engine after adding clean oil to check if any leaks occur between the parts connected to the oil filter cap and oil filter drain plug.
