2007 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2007 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The service and repair process for the water pump starts with removing the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly through the removal of its 4 bolts. The engine coolant should be drained before both the V-bank cover and radiator support seal upper can be unwired by removing their 11 clips. You can access the fan with fluid coupling by rotating each of its 4 fluid coupling bolts until loose. After that, remove the fan along with the generator V belt. The hose clamp fasteners must be dismissed to split the two oil cooler hoses from the fan shroud and disconnect the radiator reserve tank hose. Then separate the 2 fan shroud bolts and radiator reserve tank bolt to remove these components. After detaching the 4 fluid coupling nuts operators can remove the fan combined with fluid coupling and fan shroud assembly before removing the fan pulley. The maintenance process begins with the removal of ventilation hose No. 2 followed by air cleaner assembly disassembly then continues with water inlet removal through disconnecting the 2 oil cooler hoses and 2 radiator hoses and 5 water by-pass hoses respectively. Proceed to uninstall the 5 bolts securing the water inlet and then detach the O-ring from the water outlet pipe and the gasket from the water pump. The maintenance procedure starts by disassembling the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly through bolt and idler pulley removal, then proceeds to remove the generator assembly and cooler compressor assembly from the vehicle. The first step requires loss of the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly followed by removal of the water pump assembly by uninstalling the 17 bolts together with the water pump and gasket. Check the water pump assembly for coolant leakage at its air and water holes while verifying the water pump bearing can move freely. Replace the entire assembly if required. For installation begin by placing the water pump along with its new gasket then installing the 17 bolts followed by torquing the 10 mm 9.0 Nm and 12 mm to 23 Nm. The installation process requires placement of the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly followed by the cooler compressor assembly and generator assembly. Afterwards, install the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly while tightening its 2 bolts to 39 Nm torque value. Place the water inlet with its new O-ring and gasket onto the surface and apply soapy water on the O-ring before tightening 5 bolts to 9.0 Nm. The technician will reconnect 5 water by-pass hoses together with 2 radiator hoses and 2 oil cooler hoses. Insert the fan with its fluid coupling component by mounting the fan pulley on the water pump and uniting the fan with coupling and shroud before fastening temporary fluid coupling nuts and tightening fan shroud bolts along with the radiator reserve tank bolt to 5.0 Nm torque. First secure the hose connecting to the reserve tank before tightening the hose clamps protecting both oil cooler hoses. Secure the fan with fluid coupling through a complete tightening process which requires tightening the 4 fluid coupling bolts to 21 Nm while reinstalling the radiator support seal upper. Engine coolant should be added before checking for vehicle leaks while installing the V-bank cover using 7.5Nm torque on its 2 nuts. Reinstall the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly by fastening its 4 bolts while torquing them to 29 Nm.
