2007 Scion tC Fuel Tank Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install the fuel tank on 2007 Scion tC?
A: Before beginning the fuel tank removal procedure start by disassembling the rear seat cushion assembly and rear floor service hole cover then proceed to disconnect the negative battery cable terminal for at least 90 seconds before commencing work to deactivate both Air Bags and seatbelt pretensioners. For the first step in removing the fuel tank you need to detach the fuel suction along with pump and gauge tube assembly before draining out the fuel and removing the center exhaust pipe assembly. Starting with the 5 bolts on the No. 1 fuel tank protector you can remove this protector. First remove the 3 bolts that secure the rear suspension brace lower LH before moving to the rear suspension brace lower RH and its two bolts need removal. You must disconnect the fuel tank main tube by bending the tab of the retainer to unscrew the lock claws before pulling the tube outward while checking for any remaining debris and scratches. Disconnect the fuel tank breather tube through retainer pinching and connecting out of the connector and separating claw fittings and removing the fuel hose protector. Before using the transmission jack to lift the fuel tank, operatives must first loosen the hose clamp bolt to disconnect the fuel tank to filler pipe hose and secure the tank with a transmission jack then remove the 4 bolts and 2 fuel tank bands. Installer should use the transmission jack to set the fuel tank onto it until placement within the vehicle is complete, then fasten it with 2 fuel tank bands and 4 bolts which should be torqued to 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf). Loosen the mark on the fuel tank hose clamp and align the hose clamp and mark at their correct position before securing it with the clamp. Connect the fuel tank breather system through its connector to the pipe until it locks into place before inspecting the connections. Connect the fuel tank main tube through a process of connector alignment and push the connector until it reaches the seat before locking it in with the retainer. Begin with the rear suspension brace lower RH and install its 2 bolts while tightening them to 63.5 N.m (645 kgf.cm, 47 ft.lbf). Then move to install the rear suspension brace lower LH using 3 bolts tightened to the same torque value of 63.5 N.m (645 kgf.cm, 47 ft.lbf). Fasten the canister along with the No. 1 fuel tank protector secured by 5 bolts at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) while also mounting the center exhaust pipe assembly. Complete the fuel adding process then place the fuel suction with pump and gauge tube assembly before putting back the rear floor service hole cover finally connecting the negative battery cable. Technical operations proceed first with initializations and the following examinations for fuel leaks before the installation of rear seat cushion assemblies.
