  • Q: How to service the timing belt on 2006 Toyota Sienna?
A: To service the timing belt, begin by removing the front wheel RH, front wiper arm head cap, front wiper arms RH and LH, cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly, wiper link assembly, No. 1 cowl top to cowl brace inner, cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front, front fender apron seal RH, No. 1 V (cooler compressor to crankshaft pulley) belt, vane pump V belt, engine moving control rod by removing 5 bolts, and engine mounting stay No. 2 RH by removing the bolt and wire harness bracket, followed by the bolt, No. 2 engine mounting stay, and No. 2 engine mounting bracket. The technician must first remove the nut which fastens the No. 2 generator bracket before using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 to loosen the pulley bolt and Special Service Tool: 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05031) to remove the crankshaft pulley. The technician must apply lubricating oil on the threads and tip of the center bolt 150 before using the tools. Start by removing the timing belt Number one and Number two covers and disconnect engine wire protectors from the Number three cover. Also remove the right-hand engine mounting bracket by taking off two bolts and the nut. Place the crankshaft pulley at the correct angle while setting No. 1 cylinder to TDC/compression before removing the No. 2 timing belt guide alongside the timing belt toward installation. Before installation start by inspecting pulleys for water and oil residue and inspecting idler pulleys and water pumps for smooth operation and leaks. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt with its washer following a crankshaft turn to approximately sixty degrees counterclockwise direction. Install the timing belt by using Special Service Tool 09960-10010 while aligning marks on the pulley. Then position the No. 1 chain tensioner assembly and press its push rod carefully without exceeding 9.8 kN (1,000 kgf, 2,205 ft. lbs.), securing it with a 1.5 mm hexagon wrench. The procedure starts with tensioner bolt tightening to 27 Nm (280 kgf-cm, 20 ft. lbs.) then processing for 2 crankshaft revolutions to verify timing marks alignment. Then install the No. 2 timing belt guide followed by engine mounting bracket RH with 2 bolts and a nut torqued to 28 Nm (286 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.), timing belt No. 2 cover and No. 1 cover torqued to 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 inch lbs.) and the engine wire protector cover. Install the crankshaft pulley, aligning the keyway and using Special Service Tool: 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021 to secure the pulley bolt to 220 Nm (2250 kgf-cm, 162 ft. lbs.), followed by the No. 2 generator bracket at 28 Nm (286 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.), engine mounting stay No. 2 RH with the bolt torqued to 64 Nm (653 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.) and wire harness bracket at 8.4 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 74 inch lbs.), then the engine moving control rod with 5 bolts tightened in sequence to specified torques, followed by the vane pump V belt, No. 1 V (cooler compressor to crankshaft pulley) belt, inspecting drive belt deflection and tension, and finally reinstalling the cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front, No. 1 cowl top to cowl brace inner, wiper link assembly, front wiper arms LH and RH, and the front wheel RH.
