2006 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2006 Toyota Sequoia?
A: You should begin servicing or repairing the alternator by removing the rear end cover through procedures which include unfastening three nuts and then the terminal insulator. Extract the brush holder through the process of unscrewing its 2 screws. Standards Tool 09820-63010 along with a torque wrench allows you to tighten the pulley nut clockwise to 39 Nm (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) firmly adhering it to the rotor shaft. You should insert the socket into the adapter which rests in a vise then add the pulley nut before loosening it by counterclockwise tool movements while staying under half the total turn and protecting the rotor shaft. First remove the generator from the adapter before detaching the socket then the tool which holds the pulley and finally separating the pulley nut and pulley. The removal process for the coil assembly starts with bolt removal and continues with the use of Special Service Tool 09950-40011 alongside 6 additional tools mentioned to extract the assembly then remove the generator washer. First position the drive end frame across the pulley before inserting the rotor. The rotor should receive the generator washer followed by using Special Service Tool 09285-76010 to press the coil assembly into position before securing all 4 bolts at 5.8 N.m (59 kgf.cm, 51 in.lbf). To install the pulley you should first loosely tighten the pulley nut followed by using a torque wrench to apply clockwise torque of 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) through Special Service Tool (A) which needs to be securely mounted to the pulley shaft. Mount Special Service Tool (C) in a vise procedure before putting Special Service Tool (A) into it to connect the pulley nut while applying torque to 110.3 N.m (1,125 kgf.cm, 81 ft.lbf). Special Service Tools (A and B) should be removed from the generator before separating Supervisory Tool (C). Fit the brush holder onto the coil assembly where the pin faces upward while maintaining appropriate installation orientation and tighten it using 2 screws at a torque level of 1.8 N.m (18 kgf.cm, 16 in.lbf). The next step is to install the terminal insulator before fitting the rear end cover with carefully torqued 3 nuts to 4.6 N.m (47 kgf.cm, 41 in.lbf). Final checks on rotor rotation quality should be performed.
