2006 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2006 Toyota Prius?
A: At the beginning of throttle body repairs start by eliminating power by disconnecting the negative battery cable while waiting at least 90 seconds to avoid activating the Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners. The first step includes removing the under cover LH engine along with draining engine coolant while removing the radiator support opening cover by dislodging all six clips. The air cleaner assembly removal process begins with disconnecting the MAF meter connector and the wire harness clamp before loosening the hose clamp bolt to eliminate the No. 1 air cleaner inlet and removing the 2 bolts and loosening the additional hose clamp bolt for air cleaner removal. Begin the procedure by disconnecting ventilation hoses and the No.1 fuel vapor feed hose and water by-pass hoses from the throttle body assembly with motor. After disconnecting the throttle position sensor connector and throttle control motor connector, remove the bolt and 2 nuts while unscrewing the throttle with motor body. Take out the gasket from the intake manifold. Building the system starts with placement of a new gasket on the intake manifold followed by throttle with motor body installation through bolt and nuts with 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque settings and then reconnecting the throttle position sensor and throttle control motor connectors and finally connecting the water by-pass hoses and the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose before ventilatio Add the air cleaner assembly with 2 bolts reaching 7.0 N.m (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf) torque before securing the hose clamp bolts at 3.0 N.m (31 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf) while reestablishing the MAF meter connector. Complete the procedure by attaching the cable to the negative battery terminal then adding engine coolant before examining for leaks while installing the engine under cover LH before replacing the radiator support opening cover with its 6 clips. The last step consists of performing initialization because some systems need it when disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.
