2006 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2006 Toyota Matrix?
A: The first step to replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) requires disconnecting the battery negative terminal. Disassembly of the glove compartment starts with removing the stopper screw to free the assembly for upward motion after deforming the upper section. The ECM removal process requires a clip remover to unfasten two clips and open the cover while disconnecting the four ECM connectors which allows removal of the wire harness from the clamp followed by screw removal and unclipping of the claw and clip for ECM extraction. Begin by removing the ECM cover and then remove the ECM brackets by taking out four DELCO MADE screws or two DENSO MADE screws from each of Bracket No. 2 and No. 3. Place ECM bracket No. 3 using 2 screws to achieve 3.2 N.m (33 kgf.cm, 28 in.lbf) torque and proceed to install bracket No. 2 at the same torque. Use 2 screws to fasten the DENSO MADE ECM bracket while tightening them to 3.2 N.m (33 kgf.cm, 28 in.lbf) and secure the DELCO MADE bracket with 4 screws at the same specified torque. Place the new ECM cover onto the ECM before you fasten the ECM with 2 screws tightened to 3.0 N.m (31 kgf.cm, 27 in.lbf) then join all 4 ECM connectors and close the wire harness clamp with 2 clips. To finish the installation, replace the glove compartment door assembly while performing VIN registration after securing the battery terminal at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf).
