2006 Scion xA Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the rear coil spring on 2006 Scion xA?
A: You should start servicing the rear coil spring by taking out the wheel and unhooking the skid control sensor wire after disconnecting the sensor connector and unscrewing the bolt to remove the wire from the axle beam. Both sides of the vehicle need this procedure. Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 allows you to disconnect the rear No. 4 brake tube before removing the clip that will not be used again. The same methods should be used to remove the rear No. 3 brake tube. The same methods should be used to disconnect the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly from the axle beam after removing its nut. The rear axle beam assembly can be unfastened by first loosening its two retaining bolts while leaving them in place. The jack assists each side of the axle beam before the rear shock absorber assembly LH gets detached by removing the nut. Apply this process again to the right-hand side. Lowering the jacks slowly will enable removal of the rear coil spring LH together with its insulator upper and insulator lower. Start by positioning the insulator upper with its gap facing the coil spring end before you install the insulator lower and coil spring to the axle beam while keeping the paint mark facing down from the vehicle. Install first the rear shock absorber assembly LH onto the axle beam and elevate the jacks before installing temporarily the spacer along with the nut. Repeat this process for the RH side. Use the same technique to attach the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly with its nut by torquing it to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm and 48 inch lbs). Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to connect the rear No. 4 brake tube with the flexible hose before torquing it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) and securing the clip. Apply the same installation order to the rear brake tube No. 3. Attach the skid control sensor wire by inserting it with the bolt and torquing it to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). Then connect the sensor connector. Securely tighten the rear axle beam using the shock absorber stabilizer until reaching 82 Nm (836 kgf-cm, 60 ft. lbs.) torque while a rear compartment load of 90 kg (198 lb.) applied through a jack could be necessary. Join both shock absorber assembly nuts to 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.) followed by the same sequence for tightening the RH side nut. The brake line should be bled followed by installing the rear wheel at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) torque while aligning the rear wheel and testing the ABS speed sensor signal.
