2006 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the ignition switch on 2006 Scion tC?
A: Service and repair procedures on the ignition switch start with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable for at least 90 seconds to avoid activating the Air Bags and seat belt pretensioners. First, disconnect the 2 screws which hold the cover in position and then detach both the cover and lower part by rotating the steering wheel. Begin switching out the ignition switch assembly after disconnecting the ignition switch connector and the unlock warning switch connector then removing the cable tie before using a small screwdriver and claw fitting to detach the unlock warning switch connector followed by the removal of 2 screws and ignition switch ending in the installation of the screw and lock stopper. The installation process requires installing the lock stopper with its screw and then adding the ignition switch with two screws while aligning the claw position to connect the unlock warning switch followed by tying the cables and finally reconnecting all connectors. Attach the steering column cover by using its two screws but occasionally rotate the wheel for proper installation. To finish the procedure connect the cable to the negative terminal and run the initialization with systems requiring it when cable removal or reconnection takes place.
