2006 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the alternator on 2006 Scion tC?
A: Disconnection of the negative battery cable follows as the first step to remove the alternator because Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation requires a minimum of 90 seconds to complete. Two screws and three clips need to be detached to remove the front fender apron seal which is located on the right-hand side. The next step is to remove the fan together with the generator V belt before beginning work on the generator assembly. Begin by disconnecting the generator connector then removing the terminal cap and disconnecting the generator wire with its nut. Detach the 2 wire harness clamps afterward remove the securing 2 bolts from the generator. To complete the procedure you must also eliminate the bolt which anchors the wire harness clamp bracket. Install the generator assembly first then fasten the wire harness clamp bracket to its bolt while applying 8.4 N.m of torque (85 kgf.cm, 74 in.lbf). The wire harness of the crankshaft position sensor must pass through the timing chain cover rib before attaching to the wire harness clamp bracket. The generator should be installed with 2 bolts tightened to 21 N.m (215 kgf.cm, 16 ft.lbf) for Bolt A along with 52 N.m (530 kgf.cm, 38 ft.lbf) for Bolt B before attaching the wire harness clamps. Fasten the generator wire to its nut using 9.8 N.m torque and install the terminal cap followed by generator connector attachment. Install the fan then the generator V belt and after that fit the front fender apron seal RH while using 3 clips and 2 screws. Reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal should be followed by performing system initialization according to the specifications of devices which require it after negative cable disconnection.
