- Q: How to service and repair the oil cooler on 2005 Toyota Tundra?A: Service and repair work on the oil cooler demands first draining engine coolant then unfastening the 2 oil cooler hoses with removal of the union bolt plate washer and oil cooler while retrieving the O-ring from the cooler. The next stage requires disconnecting the lower radiator hose before you remove 2 nuts along with 3 bolts and the oil filter bracket and O-ring. Thoroughly check the oil cooler for either clogging or damage before doing necessary replacement. To install this equipment begin with the oil filter bracket and 2 nuts placed alongside the 3 bolts before torquing to 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) followed by connecting the lower radiator hose. After cleaning the contact surface of the oil filter bracket you should install a new O-ring onto the oil cooler before applying engine oil to the union bolt threads. Next install the oil cooler and plate washer with the union bolt and torque it to 68 Nm (693 kgf-cm, 50 ft. lbs.). Finally connect the 2 oil cooler hoses. The last steps include installing the oil filter before adding engine coolant and engine oil followed by reattaching the V-bank cover.
