2005 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ASSY on 2005 Toyota Tacoma?
A: A proper PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY replacement process starts with disconnecting both battery cable and park/neutral position switch connector. Start exchanging the park/neutral position switch assembly by driving out the lock washer stake then remove the nut, lock washer, grommet and finally remove both bolt and switch. The PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY should be placed onto the manual valve lever shaft where you should initially adjust the bolt. Install the grommet followed by a new lock washer before adding the nut to the assembly while tightening it to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.). The manual valve lever shaft needs to fit inside the groove then needs a clockwise rotation of 2 notches before aligning the neutral basic line with the switch groove while tightening the adjusting bolt to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs. torque). Install the lock washer by bending at least two of its tabs and reattach the park/neutral position switch connector using cable wires to the negative battery terminal while tightening to 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.). Conclude by checking and readjusting both the park/neutral position switch assembly and shift lever position according to requirements.
