• Q: How to replace the windshield wiper motor assembly on 2005 Toyota Solara?

  A: The first step to replace the windshield wiper motor assembly requires removing the windshield wiper arm cover through claw disengagement. First uninstall the FR wiper arm & blade assembly LH by unthreading its nut before removing the FR wiper arm & blade assembly RH. First detach the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly through removing its two clips and unfastening twelve claws. The windshield wiper motor & link assembly needs removal after disconnecting its connector then taking out the 4 bolts. To disconnect the rod from the crank arm pivot of the windshield wiper motor assembly use a screwdriver while taping the tip to prevent damage followed by removing the 3 bolts. Attach the new windshield wiper motor assembly with three bolts which need to be tightened to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf) standard while applying MP grease to the crank arm pivot before inserting the rod. The windshield wiper motor & link assembly must be installed using 4 bolts while torquing them to 7.0 Nm (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf) and reconnecting electrical wires. To install the FR wiper arm and blade assembly on the right side you must operate the wiper until the windshield wiper motor stops at its automatic position before cleaning all surfaces and installing the assembly using a nut that requires torquing to 20 Nm (204 kgf.cm or 15 ft.lbf). During this process you should use hand pressure on the arm hinge to secure the nut. Finally clean and install the FR wiper arm and blade assembly on the left-hand side using a nut while holding the arm hinge by hand and torquing it to 20 Nm (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf).
