  A: The first step to replace Floor Shift Cable Transmission Control Select (MTM) involves removal of the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly with passenger air bag assembly followed by removal of air conditioning radiator assembly and air bag sensor assembly center. The Floor Shift Cable Transmission Control Select (MTM) can be removed by breaking loose the clip and washer which separates the select cable top from the transaxle followed by removing the clip and select cable from the control cable bracket. Turn the lock to detach the select cable from the shift lever retainer while removing the clip for detachment of the top cable from the shift lever assembly before removing the 2 retainer set bolts from the floor. First disconnect the select cable from the grommet through which the technician will pull the cable out before it passes through the floor hole and retainer. To install the select cable users must first insert the floor hole retainer through which the select cable passes until it reaches the grommet then secure the retainer by fitting its 3 projections into the correct openings of the retainer. First install both retainer set bolts to a torque of 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). Then attach the select cable to the shift lever retainer by orienting the cable outer with its projecting part upward. Make sure the cable outer lock points toward direction A in the illustration. Install the clip while directing its serrated side upward before you attach the select cable to the control cable bracket using a new clip and then connect the select cable to the transaxle with its washer and clip. The technician needs to reinstall the air bag sensor assembly center combined with the air conditioning radiator assembly and the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly containing the passenger air bag assembly.
