2005 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH ASSEMBLY (U151E/U151F) on 2005 Toyota Sienna?
A: Beginning the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY (U151E/U151F) replacement requires removal of the battery followed by the air cleaner assembly plus air cleaner hose No.1 then air cleaner inlet No.2 next to the air cleaner bracket and finally air cleaner inlet No.1 together with the intake air resonator sub-assembly. Remove the park/neutral position switch assembly by first removing the control shaft lever nut followed by control cable detachment from the control shaft lever before extracting the clip which disconnects the control cable from the control cable bracket without touching the resin guide pipe. You must begin by disconnecting the park/neutral position switch connector followed by the removal of a nut, washer, and control shaft lever. Next, use a screwdriver to pry out the lock plate before removing both the lock nut and lock plate. Remove the 2 bolts before extracting the park/neutral position switch. Start by fixing the park/neutral position switch onto the manual valve shaft and installing the two temporary bolts followed by the lock plate which should be secured with 6.9 Nm torque (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.). Synchronize the control shaft lever installation by rotating it first counterclockwise to the stopping point before moving clockwise to the second notch then remove the control shaft lever. Secure the position of the switch against the neutral basic line before tightening the 2 bolts to a torque level of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Secure the nut containing the lock plate while staked by using a screwdriver before installing the control shaft lever along with its washer and secured nut at 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Establish connection of the park/neutral position switch connector followed by the control cable installation onto the bracket and placement of the control cable on the control shaft lever through the nut. The technician inspects and readsjusts the shift lever position before reinstalling the intake air resonator sub-assembly, air cleaner inlet No.1, air cleaner bracket, air cleaner inlet No.2, air cleaner hose No.1, air cleaner assembly and the battery.
