• Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2005 Toyota Sienna?

  A: Start the alternator work by taking out the generator setup. Start by detaching the wire harness clamp and separating the generator connection. Open the terminal cap and remove its nut and generator wire before loosening bolts A and B. Then decrease V belt No.1 tension by adjusting bolt C. After these steps remove bolts A, B and the generator from the assembly. Temporarily place the generator at its desired position using bolts A and B prior to adjusting V belt No.1 tension through bolt C. Tighten bolt C first then bolt A and B to a torque of 58 Nm (592 kgf.cm, 43 ft.lbf) for A and 18 Nm (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf) for B. Return the generator wire by attaching the nut and ensure it has a torque of 9.8 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Reconnect the generator connector and fix the wire harness clamp back into place. Additionally, inspect the drive belt.
